DURING OUR LIFE COURSE, DIFFERENT PERIODS AND ISSUES ARISE. IT CAN BE THE FEELING OF STUCKNESS, OR THE MERE PRESENCE OF
EXISTENTIAL QUESTIONS RUMINATING IN YOU. “am i living my life good? how come i’m not where i want to be? why do someone i love die? why am i not happy?” when the issues have the character of disturbing your normal rythm of life, like lowering your energy level, preventing or hindering you in work or social interactions/relationships, it becomes a problem.
Our genetics/biological heritage and environment makes us prone to react to stress in certain ways (in moods, in behavior, in
thoughts), and sometimes it becomes dysfunctional for us. The way of trying to cope with stress, a trauma or difficult
situations can spin out of control. Turning to drugs or alcohol, binge eating, or eating as little as possible are examples of attempting to master emotional difficulties that becomes a problem rather than the solution. Strong emotional experiences
turned inward can become selfdestructive, or they can turne outward as aggressive projections or actions.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps you to clarify what your issues are, explaining the mechanisms behind your thought
patterns, behavior and feelings. The therapy is structured with exercises and homework, giving you the opportunity to learn
about yourself and cooperate in the therapy. One goal is that you remain explorative and questioning about your life, your
thoughts and your inner dialog. CBT enable you to better confirm yourself, and to support, understand and comfort yourself
better. At the same time your ability to involve and utilize your social network increase. The mindfulness techniques are part
of the exercises and homework in the CBT treatment. Mindfulness based techniques are therapeutically interventions which shows
significant treatment effects for stress and depression, such as MBSR (Jon Kabat-Zinn) and MBCT (Zindel V.Segal). Mindfulness
based techniques provide you with tools that you can apply after ended therapy, enabling you to maintain a normalized level in
moods, thoughts and emotions (affectregulation), and preventing relapse.
